About The Artist

Dart Pottery is a studio pottery set in the village of Stoke Gabriel, Devon. It is run by ceramicist Donna White who recently completed an MA in Ceramics at Plymouth College of Art. Donna has lived in the South Hams for 27 years and uses the beauty of the surrounding area as inspiration for her clay vessels.

My work explores the connection between humans and the landscape, the relationships we form with the natural world, and how we develop bonds with places that hold significant meaning to us.

I have developed ways of embedding this human connection in clay works using sediment, sand, debris and flora to express connections, relationships, memories and emotions.

The cycles within nature, the constant inevitable changes of birth, life and death within the natural world are echoed as my clay vessels disaggregate within moorland, rivers and seas.

Creating ephemeral works reinforces a connection with the Earth. The natural elements embedded within my works are borrowed for a short time from their natural surroundings, then returned to the earth from which they came.
